Simulation Engineer - Physics Modeling
$200K–$300K
San Carlos, CA · On-site · Full-time · Posted Jun 17, 2026
- Experience
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or an advanced degree plus equivalent hands-on experience.
About the job
Build and validate physically accurate robot simulations that improve sim-to-real transfer for training and evaluating 1X’s humanoid robot.
What you'll do
- Improve dynamics, actuator, material, and sensor models using real-robot data, and measure simulation error against hardware.
- Optimize physics and rendering performance; develop reproducible simulation infrastructure, environments, and synthetic-data pipelines.
- Choose between modeling discrepancies and randomizing them to improve policy transfer across real-robot variation.
What they ask for
- Strong programming in Python, C++, or similar languages, and experience building environments or benchmarks with robotics simulators.
- Demonstrated experience improving simulation fidelity and closing the sim-to-real gap for behavior deployed on physical hardware.
- Experience modeling sensors and their failure modes in simulation, and improving physics-simulator or rendering-pipeline performance.
- Strong testing practices for simulation stacks, including physical-correctness and regression tests.
Nice to have
- Experience with system identification on real hardware or procedural environment generation.
- Familiarity with differentiable, learned, neural, or GPU-accelerated simulation; background in legged locomotion, dexterous manipulation, or deformable-body simulation.
Pay
USD $200,000 - $300,000 base salary; equity (amount not stated)
Tools
Python, C++, MuJoCo, PyBullet, Isaac Sim, Warp, JAX
