About the job

Models the in-core performance and service life of nuclear fuel and core components, translating analysis into design guidance and lifetime assessments.

What you'll do

  • Model fuel, graphite, and metallic core components under irradiation and operating conditions, including component degradation and service life.
  • Work with design, neutronics, and thermal-hydraulics teams to assess materials, geometry, interfaces, and lifetime margins.
  • Develop and validate analysis methods, communicate uncertainty and limitations, and use AI-assisted tools with independent verification.

What they ask for

  • Degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, computational engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong grounding in material behavior, heat transfer, solid mechanics, and numerical modeling.
  • Experience with finite-element or multiphysics analysis; proficiency with Python for engineering analysis and visualization.
  • Based in the United States and willing to work on-site in Austin, TX or Idaho Falls, ID; must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person compliant with 10 CFR Part 810 and may not hold non-compliant foreign citizenships.

Nice to have

  • BISON/MOOSE experience is strongly preferred.

Tools

BISON/MOOSE, Python

AI focus

Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate analysis, model development, data review, and documentation while maintaining technical traceability and independently verifying results.
