About the job

Conduct applied research in automated reasoning and formal methods to improve the security, reliability, and correctness of Amazon and AWS systems, including generative AI and agentic coding systems.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement automated reasoning algorithms and formal methods, such as constraint solving, model checking, static analysis, theorem proving, and program synthesis.
  • Explore machine learning and generative AI methods for automated reasoning and formal guarantees for AI-generated code and language model outputs.
  • Contribute to research publications and communicate findings to diverse audiences.

What they ask for

  • Enrolled in a PhD program.
  • Able to relocate to the internship location; available to work at least 40 hours per week for a minimum 12-week internship.
  • Programming experience in Python and, where applicable, C++, Haskell, or Lean.
  • Experience in at least one relevant area, such as mathematical logic, formal verification, SAT/SMT solving, theorem proving, model checking, or program analysis; research depth evidenced by publications, thesis work, or equivalent contributions.

Nice to have

  • Experience using formal methods toolkits such as Lean, Dafny, Isabelle, Rocq, Z3, or SAT/SMT solvers.
  • Experience applying formal methods to real-world problems, or programming in OCaml, Haskell, Rust, Scala, or a related language; experience with AI-assisted development tools.
