About the job
Leads experimental research on designed proteins and assemblies, developing assays to determine their function, interactions, and failure modes and informing future designs.
What you'll do
- Drive research from question through assay design, execution, analysis, and subsequent design decisions.
- Build quantitative biochemical and functional assays, including experiments in relevant cellular contexts, and distinguish biological activity from assay artifacts.
- Work with ML researchers to translate results into design constraints and develop reliable, reproducible methods.
What they ask for
- Track record of original experimental research and ability to explain personal contributions.
- Hands-on expertise in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or a closely related field.
- Ability to build and troubleshoot assays, reason quantitatively about limitations, and recognize misleading results.
- Ability to lead a research direction independently, remain hands-on at the bench, and document reproducible work.
Nice to have
- Experience with engineered proteins or complex protein systems; investigating protein function and mechanism in cellular systems; or connecting structural or biophysical measurements to function.
- Python or R for analysis, or experience with high-throughput experimentation and lab automation.
