About the job

Build chemistry-focused reinforcement learning environments, datasets, and evaluations to train Claude and measure its performance on real chemistry tasks.

What you'll do

  • Design chemistry RL environments end to end, including task design, data curation, automated grading, and checks for shortcuts and data leakage.
  • Develop datasets and evaluations with bench chemists and partners; assess real chemistry tasks and communicate results to research teams.
  • Run and analyze training experiments, diagnose model failures, and ensure datasets and environments are high quality and documented.

What they ask for

  • PhD in chemistry, computational chemistry, or a related field.
  • Deep knowledge of organic and medicinal chemistry, including reactions, synthesis, and SAR, using experimental data as ground truth.
  • Strong Python skills, solid machine learning fundamentals, and hands-on experience training and evaluating models.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, work independently, collaborate across teams, and communicate effectively.

Nice to have

  • Experience with reinforcement learning, large language models, evaluations, or benchmarks; or supporting drug discovery programs.
  • Chemistry dataset curation, cheminformatics or molecular modeling skills, bench chemistry experience, or relevant publications, patents, or open-source software.

Pay

$300,000–$320,000 USD annual salary (base salary)
