About the job
Models spacecraft radiation and charging environments and translates simulation results into design guidance for satellite shielding, materials, and electrical grounding.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain analytical models of GEO radiation environments and run radiation transport and spacecraft charging simulations.
- Develop Python pipelines to process and visualize simulation data and generate spacecraft-wide dose budgets.
- Advise hardware, mechanical, and systems teams on shielding, material selection, and grounding architectures.
What they ask for
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 2+ years of industry experience using radiation environment tools such as OMERE or SPENVIS and transport tools such as FASTRAD, Geant4, or MCNP.
- Theoretical foundation in radiation interactions with matter and experience modeling spacecraft charging physics and dielectric electric-field buildup.
- Proficiency in Python for post-processing, data scraping, and modeling automation.
Nice to have
- Master of Science or PhD in a relevant field, with research focus on space radiation environments or spacecraft charging.
- Familiarity with ISO 11221 or MIL-STD-883 Test Method 1019; knowledge of deep dielectric charging mechanisms and mitigations.
