About the job

Own and develop the precision motion controls stack for an autonomous directed-energy system, from modeling and state estimation through hardware tuning, closed-loop tracking, and field validation.

What you'll do

  • Architect and tune precision pointing and tracking control loops, including state estimation and sensor-to-actuator tracking.
  • Model and characterize gimbal, mount, and actuator dynamics; develop simulation and hardware-in-the-loop validation infrastructure.
  • Test and characterize the system on real targets, and author controls documentation and tuning standards.

What they ask for

  • 4+ years of experience in robotics.
  • Strong knowledge of classical controls, state space, LQR, and MPC.
  • Proven simulation experience and success managing the sim-to-real gap on actual hardware.
  • Modern C++ for real-time control implementation; Python or MATLAB/Simulink for modeling, system identification, and analysis.

Nice to have

  • Advanced MPC, including nonlinear, robust, or real-time NMPC on resource-constrained hardware.
  • Gimbal, beam director, or precision pointing system experience.
