About the job
Build and operate Agent Drive, a distributed filesystem and storage layer for Baseten’s agent sandboxes, focusing on correctness, performance, and tenant isolation.
What you'll do
- Develop Agent Drive features, including metadata replication, volume placement, garbage collection, and FUSE client behavior.
- Improve consistency, crash safety, and tail latency across filesystem mounts and storage paths.
- Build tenant isolation, observability, and durable sandbox block storage; own storage-related startup and resume performance.
What they ask for
- Strong systems programming in Go, Rust, and/or C/C++, including comfort reading kernel code.
- Deep knowledge of Linux filesystem and storage internals, including VFS, page cache, FUSE, block I/O, fsync semantics, and crash consistency.
- Hands-on experience building distributed storage systems, content-addressable storage, or large-scale caching infrastructure.
- Experience profiling I/O, memory, and RPC bottlenecks and optimizing production tail latency.
Nice to have
- Experience with distributed filesystems or object stores such as JuiceFS, CephFS, or S3-compatible storage; or contributions to those projects.
- Knowledge of consensus and replication protocols, snapshot/clone/copy-on-write filesystems, multi-tenant storage isolation, or Linux performance tools.
