Embedded Software Engineer, Safety-Critical Systems

San Francisco, CA · Hybrid · Full-time · Posted Sep 14, 2026

About the job

Architects and builds embedded safety-controller software that connects Bedrock’s autonomous system to heavy machinery and supports reliable operation in harsh field conditions.

What you'll do

  • Build deterministic, safety-critical software to control machinery and monitor system health.
  • Develop across the embedded stack, from drivers and RTOS through communication, middleware, applications, and system integration.
  • Create portable machine-control abstractions and extend embedded devices for field operations, including power management, sensor cleaning, and lighting.

What they ask for

  • Experience building and shipping embedded systems in robotics, automotive, drones, or other safety-critical contexts.
  • Strong embedded programming in a systems language such as C++ or Rust, plus fluency in Python.
  • Foundation in resource-constrained, real-time software; ability to develop, automate, and debug across the hardware/software boundary.
  • Track record of leading projects, driving design decisions, and collaborating across hardware, autonomy, and platform teams.

Nice to have

  • Production or embedded Rust experience; familiarity with CAN, Ethernet, or J1939.
  • Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or DO-178C.

Tools

C++, Rust, Python, RTOS, CAN, Ethernet, J1939, ISO 26262
