Education
PhD (or equivalent experience) in ultrasound imaging, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.

About the job

Develop and validate functional ultrasound imaging sequences and reconstruction pipelines for a brain-computer interface platform, including transcranial imaging and human research studies.

What you'll do

  • Develop, optimize, and quantitatively validate fUSI sequences and reconstruction pipelines, with a focus on transcranial performance.
  • Characterize Butterfly research probes and define acquisition requirements for custom hardware.
  • Design research-study imaging protocols, support data collection, and coordinate with the decoding team on data quality, throughput, and latency.

What they ask for

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in ultrasound imaging, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on ultrafast ultrasound experience, including beamforming, plane-wave imaging, and image reconstruction.
  • Command of imaging signal processing, including IQ demodulation, clutter/SVD filtering, Doppler and power-Doppler methods, and autocorrelation.
  • Proficiency with research-grade imaging code (e.g., MATLAB and/or Python), probe hardware, and research acquisition platforms; direct fUSI or transcranial ultrasound experience.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with open-source beamforming frameworks such as the Mach beamformer.
  • Experience designing or running human imaging studies; exposure to GPU-accelerated beamforming or real-time imaging pipelines.

Tools

Butterfly Network research platform, MATLAB, Python, Mach beamformer, GPU

AI focus

The imaging pipeline supplies data to AI-based neural decoding for brain-computer interface applications; the role partners with the decoding team on data needs.
