Senior Staff Software Engineer, Search & Recommendation

What you'll do

• Set the roadmap and build retrieval, ranking, candidate generation, and personalization for search, feeds, discovery, and leaderboards.
• Measure relevance through quality metrics, offline evaluation, and online experiments; evolve ranking signals and models with data and ML partners.
• Own OpenSearch production operations and set engineering standards for instrumentation, rollouts, and runbooks; partner with Product and Trust & Safety and mentor engineers.

What they ask for

• 10+ years building production software, with substantial depth in search, ranking, recommendations, or ML-driven relevance on a consumer-scale product.
• Hands-on production search-engine expertise, including index and analyzer design, relevance tuning, and cluster operations.
• Experience owning offline evaluation, golden sets, and A/B or interleaving frameworks.
• Fluency across recommender systems and strong distributed-systems and backend fundamentals, with production experience in Go or a comparable systems language.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-generated or rapidly growing content catalogs, severe cold-start conditions, or ranking under trust-and-safety constraints.

Pay

$250,000 - $320,000 USD annual base salary
