About the job

Analyzes solid rocket motor propellant grains to support design, development, qualification, and performance predictions for hypersonic defense systems.

What you'll do

  • Perform structural and stress analysis of propellant grains under mechanical, thermal, and pressure loads using analytical methods, finite element analysis, and propulsion software.
  • Collaborate with motor design and manufacturing teams on grain geometry, propellant formulation, and case design.
  • Support grain qualification, including aging studies, thermal cycling, and flight-readiness assessments.

What they ask for

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in propellant grain analysis, solid rocket motor design, or related propulsion disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of propellant grain structural mechanics.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools (Abaqus, NASTRAN, ANSYS) for propellant grain stress analysis.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience with solid rocket motor programs, propellant failure modes, viscoelastic modeling, DoD qualification standards, or testing and manufacturing.

Tools

Abaqus, NASTRAN, ANSYS, MIL-STD-1751, MSFC-SPEC-522
