Backend Engineer, Applied Agents (Los Altos)

What you'll do

• Build the agent runtime, harness, tool-calling infrastructure, sandboxed code execution, memory, and reliability and observability systems.
• Develop backend services and APIs, and operate vector databases, semantic search, RAG systems, and life sciences data pipelines.
• Ground AI outputs in traceable citations and work with founders, domain experts, and customers to deliver product outcomes.

What they ask for

• 2+ years of experience shipping and operating production backend systems end to end.
• Strong fundamentals in API design, data modeling, databases, and system reliability.
• Production experience with AI-driven systems such as LLMs, RAG, and vector DBs; practical understanding of agent runtimes, harnesses, tool calling, sandboxing, and memory.
• Active use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.

Nice to have

• Experience building an in-house agentic harness; production experience with LangGraph, agent frameworks, or RAG systems.
• Experience in enterprise SaaS, pharma, biotech, or healthcare; familiarity with life sciences data; or production operations on AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
