Build and operate Cloudflare’s distributed database stack, spanning query execution, transaction processing, durable storage, and recovery.
What you'll do
- Improve query planning, indexing, reads, writes, and performance as data and access patterns change.
- Build consistent and durable transaction and storage paths; design simulations and safe stateful upgrades for failure and recovery scenarios.
- Own major changes through production, participate in on-call and incident response, coordinate across teams, and mentor engineers.
What they ask for

- Understanding of query execution, indexing, transaction processing, concurrency control, isolation, replication, snapshots, consistency, durability, and recovery.
- Ability to write and debug concurrent production software in Rust, Go, C++, or another systems language.
- Experience operating stateful systems through rollouts, scaling events, incidents, and recovery, and leading cross-team failure investigations.
Nice to have
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon Aurora, or another relational database’s internals.
- Experience with transaction processing or concurrency control, database workload profiling, or deterministic simulation.
Pay
$194,000 - $266,000 USD base salary; $185,000 - $254,000 USD base salary; €102,000 - €140,000 EUR base salary
