About the job

Improves the systems engineers use to build, test, deploy, and operate software, with a focus on development speed, performance, and reliable delivery.

What you'll do

  • Profile and optimize builds, tests, CI queues, artifact transfers, and local workflows; establish baselines and verify improvements.
  • Design and improve internal platforms, APIs, services, CI/CD, GitOps, and release and recovery processes.
  • Build and operate Linux, container, virtual machine, Kubernetes, and homelab infrastructure; investigate capacity, networking, throughput, and latency.

What they ask for

  • Strong software engineering skills and experience building or operating infrastructure others rely on.
  • Depth in at least one area relevant to the role and ability to learn adjacent layers; examples include systems languages, Linux debugging, API design, build systems, CI/CD, GitOps, Kubernetes, observability, or infrastructure as code.
  • Ability to investigate problems with evidence, measure performance changes, and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Full-time, in-person work in San Francisco.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Buck2, Bazel, Blaze, remote execution, or build cache design; Terraform familiarity is useful.
  • Experience scaling production services to 100,000 or more requests per second, or equivalent depth on another demanding workload; hands-on hardware and networking experience is a plus.
