About the job

Owns the local mobility and safety stack for a humanoid robot fleet, translating AI-generated routes and costmaps into safe, dynamically feasible motion on uneven terrain.

What you'll do

  • Develop local motion planners that generate executable trajectories for heavy mobile robots on uneven terrain.
  • Build real-time C++ pipelines to consume AI-generated maps and apply deterministic safety constraints and fallback behaviors.
  • Account for changing center of mass and connect base trajectories and constraints to the Whole-Body Control architecture.

What they ask for

  • Ph.D. in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or an M.S. degree with 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on expertise developing and tuning local planners and trajectory optimization algorithms for mobile robots in complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of kinematics, vehicle dynamics, and center-of-mass constraints for top-heavy mobile robots.
  • Expertise in modern C++ (C++17/20), real-time performance, memory management, and low-latency execution; proven deployment of autonomous navigation stacks on physical robots.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Whole-Body Control frameworks and operational space control.
  • Experience with SLAM/VIO systems, slip and traction estimation, or CUDA acceleration.

Tools

C++17/20, MPC, MPPI, Whole-Body Control (WBC), SLAM, VIO, CUDA

AI focus

Consumes AI-team neural network outputs, semantic maps, and learned costmaps to create deterministic motion-planning constraints; adds safety layers that can override unsafe AI inputs.
