Humanoid Engineer, Manipulation
Irvine, CA · On-site · Full-time · Posted Jun 25, 2026
- Experience
- No specific number of years stated; background appropriate for a junior-to-mid engineer, and fresh MS and PhD graduates are welcome.
- Education
- MS or PhD in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; BS considered with a demonstrated track record of hands-on robotics work across multiple physical systems.
About the job
Develop, integrate, test, and improve manipulation capabilities for humanoid robots, translating research into reliable behaviors on physical platforms and in field deployments.
What you'll do
- Design, implement, and evaluate manipulation and loco-manipulation behaviors on real hardware; integrate perception, planning, control, grasping, and task execution.
- Run hardware experiments, analyze failures, and improve reliability; build evaluation tools, metrics, and protocols.
- Support teleoperation and data collection, debug cross-domain issues, and partner with teams to move capabilities from prototype to deployment.
What they ask for
- Physical-hardware experience with robotic manipulation, humanoids, mobile manipulation, dexterous hands, or contact-rich robotics; simulation-only experience is not accepted.
- Strong foundation in kinematics, dynamics, motion planning, control, and real robot experimentation.
- Experience with C++, Python, ROS/ROS2, and Linux in a real robotics codebase.
- Ability to iterate from experiments to working behaviors on physical hardware, including daily testing and failure analysis.
Nice to have
- Experience with humanoid platforms or contact-rich, dexterous manipulation systems.
- Robot learning validated on real hardware, field-ready manipulation deployments, or manipulation evaluation frameworks.
Tools
C++, Python, ROS/ROS2, Linux
AI focus
Apply robot learning and related research to physical humanoid manipulation; support teleoperation, data collection, and human-in-the-loop workflows to improve performance.
