Systems Software Engineer

San Francisco · On-site · Full-time · Posted Jul 22, 2026

Experience
1+ years; exceptional new grads with strong project or internship experience are welcome to apply.

About the job

Develop and optimize real-time systems software that moves data from AI models through perception and control pipelines to robot actuators.

What you'll do

  • Ship performance-critical code to robots and contribute to deterministic real-time control alongside vision inference.
  • Build low-latency perception data paths for high-bandwidth camera streams, preventing silent drops.
  • Develop instrumentation and tooling to observe and debug pipeline behavior, latency, and reliability.

What they ask for

  • At least 1 year of software engineering experience building systems close to hardware; exceptional new graduates with strong project or internship experience are welcome.
  • Strong programming fundamentals in at least one of Rust, C++, or Python, plus understanding of operating systems and multithreading.
  • Experience building working systems, tools, or projects, and debugging timing, concurrency, or hardware issues.
  • Able to work on-site in San Francisco 5 days per week (6 days per week if needed during crunch time).

Nice to have

  • Linux kernel or embedded systems experience; exposure to Bazel, Nix, HIL testing, or CI/CD.
  • Experience with real-time control systems, computer vision pipelines, or tracing and profiling tools such as ftrace, flamegraphs, or eBPF.

Tools

Rust, C++, Python, Bazel, Nix, HIL testing, CI/CD, ftrace

AI focus

Build and optimize real-time pipelines that move camera data to computer vision and ML models, and coordinate vision inference with robot control and actuation. Comfort using AI tools to multiply output is preferred.
