Intern, Medium Voltage Test Engineering
Scotts Valley · On-site · Internship · Posted Sep 30, 2026
- Education
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science.
About the job
Build and operate medium-voltage test infrastructure, characterize insulation systems, analyze degradation and failures, and inform design improvements for power electronics.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and operate test benches and fixtures, following medium-voltage lab safety protocols.
- Conduct dielectric, partial-discharge, and accelerated-aging tests; collect and report results.
- Analyze degradation and failure mechanisms, document findings, and work with design and materials engineering on corrective actions.
What they ask for
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science.
- Coursework in electromagnetics, dielectrics, or high-voltage engineering, or demonstrated independent study in the area.
- Technical interest in high-voltage physics, insulation behavior, and failure mechanisms.
- Strong debugging skills and a detail-oriented, safety-conscious approach.
Nice to have
- Exposure to partial discharge theory, dielectric spectroscopy, or high-voltage lab techniques; familiarity with IEC or IEEE dielectric testing standards.
- Experience with data analysis and visualization in Python or MATLAB, or prior relevant lab research.
Tools
Python, MATLAB, IEC 60243, IEC 60270, HV power supplies, LCR bridges, HV megohmmeters, dielectric analyzers
