About the job

Build and validate characterization methods and measurement infrastructure for thin-film materials and silicon photonic devices, producing reliable data to guide materials, design, and fabrication decisions.

What you'll do

  • Own chip- and wafer-level characterization of thin-film materials, passive photonic structures, and electro-optic modulators; design, assemble, calibrate, and debug test setups.
  • Develop measurement strategies, protocols, calibration, and quality-control practices, including wafer-level methods for assessing variation.
  • Analyze and document results, share findings with materials, design, and fabrication teams, and collaborate with simulation, ML, and automation teams.

What they ask for

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience characterizing photonic materials and devices at chip and wafer level, including thin-film, passive, and active device testing.
  • Experience measuring thin-film optical and electro-optic properties, including electro-optic coefficient extraction, and testing passive structures and electro-optic modulators or related active devices.
  • Experience building and debugging optical and optoelectronic measurement setups and developing valid, reliable measurement methods; proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or an equivalent language.

Nice to have

  • Experience with novel, heterogeneous, or hybrid electro-optic materials integrated on silicon photonics; correlating film properties with device performance.
  • Cleanroom fabrication, wafer-level photonic probing, foundry workflows, simulation tools, test automation, or supplying measurement data to ML, modeling, or simulation teams.
