Staff Software Engineer, AI Safety

What you'll do

• Build reusable services, libraries, integrations, applications, and data pipelines for safety evaluations, red teaming, and mitigation experiments.
• Translate research workflows into maintainable tools, preserving experiment evidence and enabling traceable, reproducible comparisons.
• Own tool reliability and usability through testing, debugging, monitoring, documentation, and collaboration across engineering teams.

What they ask for

• Track record of independently delivering and maintaining production software, including work with ambiguous or changing requirements.
• Strong Python and backend engineering skills, including API design, databases, and dependable data or execution pipelines.
• Experience translating technical users’ needs into usable tools and working across services and interfaces.
• Engineering experience in AI research, AI safety, scientific computing, or other rapidly evolving experimental workflows.

Nice to have

• Building safety-specific tooling.
• Building full-stack internal applications, annotation or review tools, or systems for managing experimental evidence; experience with distributed experiment execution, model-serving integrations, or isolated agent-evaluation environments.

Pay

$192,000 — $288,000 USD (base salary)
