12+ years building and operating distributed, data-intensive production systems, including deep experience as a multi-service platform technical owner.

About the job

Own the architecture and technical direction of Metropolis’s Recognition Platform, building edge-to-cloud pipelines and real-time decisioning that turn sensor signals into actions.

What you'll do

  • Lead end-to-end platform architecture, RFCs, and roadmap sequencing across ingestion, identity resolution, decisioning, notifications, and operator surfaces.
  • Drive cross-team and partner alignment while evolving scalable streaming pipelines and real-time rules and decisioning systems.
  • Own production quality, privacy and consent models, operational practices, and technical standards, including mentorship and AI-native workflows.

What they ask for

  • Proven cross-functional technical leadership aligning engineering teams on shared architecture.
  • Expert proficiency in a JVM language such as Java or Scala; fluency in event-driven and service-oriented design, gRPC/protobuf, streaming, and relational data modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with high-throughput ingestion, including delivery semantics, idempotency, ordering, backpressure, and tail latency.
  • Experience building decisioning systems combining deterministic logic with probabilistic or model-driven signals; strong systems judgment and production operations expertise.

Nice to have

  • Experience with computer vision, biometric matching, sensor fusion, privacy-regulated domains, or consent management.
  • Experience with IoT or edge computing, identity resolution, or hospitality, retail, or physical-operations software.

Pay

$232,000 - $268,000 USD annually (base salary)

Tools

TypeScript, React, Scala, Java, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, AWS

AI focus

Builds AI-native engineering workflows and uses AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot; the platform also balances probabilistic or model-driven signals with deterministic decisioning.
