About the job

Design and rebuild Nextdoor’s search experience across organic and sponsored results, helping neighbors find local posts, people, places, businesses, and answers.

What you'll do

  • Establish Search’s design principles, patterns, and components, with this as the headline deliverable for the first six months.
  • Design the full search journey, including typeahead, results, filters, page layout, and how sponsored results appear alongside organic results.
  • Partner with product, data science, ML engineering, and research to prototype and test search experiences, including ranking, query understanding, and low-confidence or empty results.

What they ask for

  • Product design experience, with substantial work on search, discovery, or dense content-heavy surfaces for large audiences.
  • Portfolio demonstrating problem framing, interaction and visual design, prototyping, and attention to loading, empty, and error states.
  • Experience partnering with ads or monetization teams and sound judgment on trade-offs between engagement and revenue.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Swift, Java, or Xcode.

Nice to have

  • Breadth across growth, marketplaces, ads, or new-product work.
  • Experience designing alongside ML and LLM features.
