About the job

Build and scale Notion’s database infrastructure product, taking it from alpha to general availability while making database capabilities reliable, performant, and approachable for customers.

What you'll do

  • Shape the technical direction and product roadmap, work with early customers, and take the product from alpha to general availability.
  • Improve query execution, indexing, data loading, schema changes, concurrency, permissions, and recovery.
  • Automate database provisioning and fleet operations, strengthen observability, and scale the architecture for growing customer workloads.

What they ask for

  • Production relational database experience, including schema and index decisions, performance analysis, and troubleshooting transactions, locking, or concurrency beyond ORM use.
  • 10+ years building and operating production software, with technical leadership across complex, cross-team initiatives from concept through delivery.
  • Strong backend fundamentals for correctness under concurrency and failure, and a systematic approach to performance analysis.
  • Product judgment, willingness to work across the stack, and fluency using AI-assisted engineering while validating results.

Nice to have

  • Experience managing database fleets or building database platforms, including provisioning, upgrades, backups, and recovery.
  • Deep Postgres expertise or experience building query layers, sync engines, change-data-capture pipelines, permission systems, or reusable data abstractions.

Pay

$234,000 – $352,000 per year (base salary)
