About the job

Integrate and validate software and controls for heterogeneous second-life and new battery packs used in grid-scale energy storage systems.

What you'll do

  • Bring up and reverse-engineer EV battery packs in the lab, including decoding communications and safely controlling pack hardware.
  • Validate OEM BMS state estimates and safety limits against physical battery behavior; integrate Redwood’s battery estimation, degradation-mitigation, and balancing algorithms.
  • Develop embedded software gateways and control interfaces, and lead technical integration with OEMs and suppliers.

What they ask for

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in BMS firmware/controls development, battery pack bring-up, or EV/BESS battery integration.
  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical/Electrochemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Practical lithium-ion battery and BMS expertise, including battery modeling, state estimation, power limits, balancing, and high-voltage safety.
  • Proficiency with Rust and C/C++, lab and diagnostic tools, and battery communications protocols.

Nice to have

  • Experience characterizing aged or second-life EV batteries.
  • Experience developing or modifying bare-metal/RTOS BMS firmware on automotive-grade microcontrollers and interfacing with AFE chips.
