About the job

Design, analyze, prototype, test, and release mechanical mechanisms for Shield AI’s autonomous aircraft products.

What you'll do

  • Own mechanism design from concept through CAD, tolerance analysis, material selection, and drawing release; perform structural and kinematic calculations and preliminary FEA.
  • Prototype, test, and iterate designs, supporting pre-production builds, integration, and ground and flight testing.
  • Collaborate with electrical, avionics, flight controls, and propulsion teams to meet performance, schedule, and reliability goals.

What they ask for

  • B.S. in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years in mechanical or mechanism design.
  • Strong CAD skills; kinematic analysis and optimization; structural analysis using hand calculations and finite element methods, including modal, non-linear and linear, buckling, and fatigue FEA.
  • GD&T and tolerance stack-ups for mechanical systems; materials selection involving alloys, heat treatments, allowables, and finishes.

Nice to have

  • Experience with UAVs, aircraft, or robotic systems; familiarity with electro-mechanical actuators.
  • FMEA, DOE, and root cause analysis; hands-on machine shop or mechanic experience; or relevant testing experience.

Tools

NX, FEA, GD&T, FMEA, DOE, RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-810

AI focus

The role develops mechanical mechanisms for autonomous aircraft products; no direct AI work is specified.
