About the job

Build and validate PSCAD EMT models and Typhoon HIL tests to prove that an islanded, inverter-dominant power plant can reliably supply data center loads before commissioning.

What you'll do

  • Develop and run plant-level PSCAD EMT models and studies, including islanded operation, faults, protection, and inverter interactions.
  • Build real-time Typhoon HIL models, automate controller testing, and run firmware regression tests correlated with PSCAD results.
  • Support commissioning and field troubleshooting, and coordinate technical findings with OEMs and internal engineering teams.

What they ask for

  • M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Power Electronics, or Controls with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. in one of these fields with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on PSCAD/EMTDC experience building plant-level inverter-based resource models, integrating OEM black-box models, and running fault, ride-through, and dynamic studies.
  • Hands-on real-time HIL experience; working knowledge of grid-forming and grid-following inverter control and islanded, low-fault-current protection.
  • Proficiency in Python for study automation and data analysis; experience writing test procedures and technical study reports.

Nice to have

  • Direct islanded, off-grid, or behind-the-meter microgrid experience, especially black start of an inverter-dominant system.
  • Typhoon HIL certification or experience building automated HIL regression pipelines.

Up to $15K USD relocation bonus; $1K USD monthly stipend for meals
