About the job
Models plasma transport and performance in stellarators, translating simulation results into design and operational guidance for Thea Energy’s fusion devices.
What you'll do
- Run integrated simulations to predict device performance and develop operating scenarios.
- Use gyrokinetic, fluid, and reduced transport solvers to project confinement and heat, particle, and momentum transport; maintain and extend modeling frameworks.
- Build reproducible simulation pipelines and use transport analysis to guide equilibrium and coil optimization, collaborating with physics and engineering teams.
What they ask for
- PhD in Plasma Physics, Computational Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field; candidates with a Master’s degree and 3+ years of direct transport/turbulence modeling experience will be considered.
- Strong understanding of gyrokinetic theory and transport processes.
- Expertise developing scientific simulation codes using Python, C++, or Fortran.
- Experience in Linux-based HPC environments, focusing on code scalability and performance.
Nice to have
- Experience running core or edge gyrokinetic codes, or stellarator-specific equilibrium and stability codes.
- Familiarity with advanced numerical methods, GPU programming, or surrogate/reduced models.
