Silicon Photonics Systems Test Engineer – Optical Circuit Switches (OCS)

$120K–$160K

New York Office (HQ) · On-site · Full-time · Posted Oct 20, 2026

Experience
4+ years; exceptional candidates at other experience levels may be considered.
Education
BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field; MS or PhD is a plus.

About the job

Build and automate test benches to characterize optical circuit switches, validate system models, and guide design decisions for Voyant Photonics’ OCS program.

What you'll do

  • Run experiments and characterize optical performance of early chips and prototypes, including loss, crosstalk, polarization, wavelength dependence, and switching time.
  • Compare measurements with device, circuit, and system models; explain discrepancies and report findings to guide design and specifications.
  • Design, build, and automate scalable OCS test benches and analyze how performance changes as port counts grow.

What they ask for

  • Hands-on experience with optical or photonic testing, characterization, or early-stage technology derisking; optical lab equipment, fiber handling and coupling, and standard electrical equipment.
  • Experience automating test equipment and analyzing large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation and data analysis.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field; must be able to work on-site.

Nice to have

  • Experience testing silicon photonic integrated circuits, optical switches, or datacom/telecom optical modules.
  • Familiarity with photonic simulation tools such as Lumerical; wafer- or die-level probing, high-channel-count setups, or automated stages and fiber alignment systems.
