About the job
Designs, prototypes, tests, and rolls out maintenance tools for Zipline’s drone and ground systems, working with maintenance, hardware, and operations teams.
What you'll do
- Understand operational pain points and process requirements; design and prototype maintenance tools, including producing initial units with hand and machine tools.
- Collect operational feedback, iterate on designs, and partner with Operations leadership on production trade studies.
- Create usage documentation and lead training as tools are introduced into operation.

- Strong grasp of mechanical design fundamentals, including statics, dynamics, material properties, and fabrication processes.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, Solidworks, or Fusion.
- Hands-on prototyping experience, such as 3D printing, fabrication, welding, soldering, or assembly.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to work on-site daily at the Esparto, CA test facility.
