About the job

Develops and validates electric-motor models and tests to guide motor design and optimization across Zipline aircraft, accounting for aircraft-level performance.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain electromagnetic, performance, loss, and reduced-order motor models and design-space datasets.
  • Plan and run dynamometer tests, correlate experimental results with models, and improve model accuracy.
  • Integrate motor models with aircraft, inverter, battery, thermal, controls, and driven-load models to inform system-level design decisions.

What they ask for

  • Master’s degree or PhD in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physics, or a related field, focused on electric machines, electromagnetics, optimization, or electric powertrains.
  • Strong electric-machine fundamentals and significant experience developing and interpreting finite-element and reduced-order models.
  • Experience with Motor-CAD or similar software and strong proficiency in MATLAB.
  • Hands-on experience planning and executing motor dynamometer tests, defining measurements, and correlating models against test results.

Nice to have

  • Experience in aerospace, electric aviation, robotics, automotive traction, or other mass- and efficiency-constrained applications.
  • Experience with optimization, uncertainty quantification, surrogate modeling, or machine-learning-assisted design exploration.

Tools

Motor-CAD, JMAG, Maxwell, COMSOL, MATLAB, Python
